Do you have what it takes?

I want to ask you this. Do you have what it takes to survive in this crazy world?

Day by day, life seems to become more and more challenging for everyone. We find ourselves among circumstances and obstacles that affect our mental health.

Despite not having experienced a world war -yet- as previous generations did, we went through quite a few tough times ourselves, and things are not looking all that good for the near future. Sorry for being so pessimistic.

Come on, let’s face our reality. We live in a world where black lives matter but we can hate Russians just because why not? While we are struggling to pay our energy bills and the shopping basket is getting more expensive by the minute, the US and China flip the coin to see who strikes Taiwan first. Can you imagine the outcome of this war to control the biggest microchip producer?

What’s going to be next? A war to see who controls the water? The air, maybe? I prefer coming back to Covid times when we were all fighting the virus together. At least we had a common enemy that wasn’t one of us.

We live in a world where women fight every day against genre inequality, while in many countries of the Middle East, women can’t even show their faces in public. Today some countries are proud of supporting the LGTB+ group while others prosecute gay people. Hunger strikes half the world while the other half throws away tonnes of unwanted food every day.

Why do we have so much news every day about people trying to harm and so little about people trying to make things right? Are we losing faith in ourselves?

The race against global warming is already lost. The hottest summer recorded until today from this year seems like a good clue of that to me. The only thing we can do is try to ease a bit of the mess we have already made with the environment as much as possible so we can stay in a place with no risk of flooding, droughts, sea rise and extreme temperatures. Finding this special place is going to be tough. Not to mention the quality of the air we breathe. I recently read that we managed to spoil the environment so much that, no matter where you are, the rain -if you are lucky enough to have any- is so polluted that it's not safe to drink.

It looks like things are speeding up much faster than we thought. Soon we will start to see weather-related migrations, like animals have been doing for ages. Perhaps we should pay attention to how they do that. We may learn a thing or two.

So, after facing our current reality, I would like to ask you again. Do you have what it takes to survive in a world like that without going mental? Yes, you can.

Fortunately, we have plenty of entertainment in the palm of our hand. Things like Tik-Tok, Instagram and Netflix help us evade reality every time we feel a bit down due to what’s going on around us. Perhaps these are other types of weapons that big fishes use to keep our minds occupied while they play Risk big time.

The world of entertainment is part of us. It allows us to have a good time whenever we feel fancy and when we need to have a break from reality. But, if someday this fails to exist, we can always rely on our imagination.

So, can you imagine a world living in peace and harmony with each other? John Lennon did a while ago.

Enjoy the song 😉
